X-Rite Scanning Densitometer
This machine takes reading densities several steps further than
the traditional hand-held densitometer. The press operator takes
a press sheet and inserts it into the Scanning Densitometer.
A carriage reads the entire color bar and then relays that information
to a computer. The computer then shows the densities, dot gain,
and other information of all four colors for the entire sheet!
With hand-held units you can only read one color and one small
section at a time. The computer allows the press operator to
pull up a graph at any time to see the consistency of all colors
through the entire run-they can even print it out if needed!
X-Rite Spectrophotometer
Rocky Mountain Printing was one of the first companies
in the world to have an X-Rite Spectrophotometer. In addition
to reading density, a Spectrophotometer will actually plot the
exact color in a sphere and tell the press operator where it
is. This is very useful when working with PMS colors. Not only
will press operators be able to tell if the ink is mixed correctly,
they will also be able to tell what needs to happen to correct
a wrong ink mixture. This eliminates the traditional guessing
that press operators do to make the PMS color look
like it should. The Spectrophotometer will even read the paper
before printing on it, so the slightest color difference will
be detected. With the Spectrophotometer you will get the actual
color you want!
